In Mumbai, Maharashtra legislators come to blows
Legislators of both ruling and Opposition sides came to blows on the staircase of Maharashtra legislature on Wednesday. While NCP MLC Amol Mitkari alleged MLA Mahesh Shinde attacked him, chief whip of Eknath Shinde faction and Mahad MLA Bharat Gogawale added fat to fire by claiming they were the ones to have manhandled Opposition members.
The incident took place in the morning before the beginning of the regular legislative business. Led by Gogawale, members of the treasury bench were holding a protest on the steps of the Assembly, alleging corruption in Covid relief work during the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government, apparently in a bid to counter the Opposition’s constant jibes about each MLA of the Chief Minister’s camp accepting 50 boxes of money for crossing over.
They also raised issues of Sachin Waze and arrest of two previous ministers, Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik, in corruption cases. CM Shinde, who arrived at the House while the protest was going on, stood by and read all the posters being carried by his colleagues.
